How to Apply for NADOI Certification

By NADOI

  • Read the Certification FAQ to learn more about the application process

  • Use the ELIGIBILITY CALCULATOR to ensure you have the experience required to apply for Certification

  • REQUIRED READING:
Before submitting your Preliminary Application, you will be asked to affirm that you have read and agree to three documents.

    • NADOI Code of Ethics
    • NADOI Standards of Conduct
    • NADOI’s Position Statements

Please be sure to read them before submitting the Preliminary Application, particularly the position statement regarding equipment and methods. NADOI neither dictates nor restricts an instructor’s informed choices because “humaneness” is directly tied to the instructor’s demonstrated knowledge and experience.

Both exams, the Preliminary and Part 2, consist mainly of essay questions. To help you prepare for the amount of detail asked for, here is a sample essay answer about a common topic:  How to Make Toast. When you read it, you will be amazed at the number of steps that would be required if you were explaining such a simple procedure to someone who had never seen it done!

Many of our essay questions ask you to explain things in the language you would use for students. Not giving enough detail is the most common reason applicants do not pass the first time they take the exam.

After reading the above pages, click HERE:  Preliminary Application form. Once you pass the Preliminary Application, you will be given access to Part 2.

FORMER MEMBERS should request the Reinstatement Application. They do NOT need to complete the regular application.

Mission Statement

To certify dog obedience instructors of the highest caliber, to provide continuing education and learning resources to those instructors, and to continue to promote humane, diverse and effective training methods and competent instruction.
